Digital Lock Man Takes a Closer Look at the Yale YRD256 Assure Lock

G'day Perth! Digital Lock Man here!
Today I'm taking a closer look at a very stylish digital door lock from Yale – the Yale YRD256 Assure Lock SL.
If you're looking for a modern touchscreen digital lock that does away with traditional keys, this one is definitely worth checking out!
The Yale Assure Lock SL combines a slim, modern design with convenient keypad entry and a range of useful features. Let's take a closer look at what this lock has to offer.
1. A Sleek, Modern Touchscreen Design
One of the first things you'll notice about the Yale YRD256 is its slim touchscreen keypad.
Instead of a traditional keyhole, the exterior features a smooth touchscreen with illuminated numbers. Simply touch the screen to wake it up, enter your PIN code and you're in!
It's a great option for people who prefer a clean, modern look on their front door.
The Australian model is available in popular finishes including Satin Chrome and Matt Black.
2. Completely Key-Free Entry
Here's something that makes the YRD256 a little different from some other digital locks – it doesn't have a traditional key cylinder.
That's right! No physical house keys are required for everyday entry.
You simply enter your programmed PIN code on the touchscreen to unlock the door.
You can also set up multiple user codes, making it convenient for family members and other people who need access to your home.
3. One-Touch Locking
This is one of my favourite features!
When you leave home, you don't need to worry about finding your keys or remembering to turn a key in the lock.
Simply touch the keypad to activate the one-touch locking feature and the motorised deadbolt locks the door.
Nice and easy!
4. Automatic Relocking
The Yale YRD256 also offers an automatic relocking option.
When enabled, the lock can automatically secure the door after a set period following entry.
This is particularly handy if you're someone who occasionally forgets to lock the front door.
The automatic relocking feature can be customised through the lock's settings.
5. Battery Power and Emergency Backup
The YRD256 operates using four AA batteries.
Like most electronic door locks, it will give you a low-battery warning when the batteries need replacing.
But what happens if the batteries go completely flat?
Don't panic! The lock has an emergency 9V battery connection on the exterior. You can temporarily power the lock using a 9V battery, enter your PIN code and gain access.
Just remember to replace the main batteries as soon as possible.
6. Smart Lock Features
The Australian Yale YRD256HK versions are supplied with a Yale Home module and DoorSense technology.
With the compatible Yale Home setup, you can access additional features such as smartphone control, activity monitoring and managing access for other users.
For remote access when you're away from home, additional compatible equipment, such as a Yale Connect Wi-Fi bridge, may be required.
It's worth checking exactly which accessories are included with the particular model you're purchasing.
7. Is the Yale YRD256 Right for Your Door?
The YRD256 is designed as a residential digital deadbolt and can be a great option for suitable entry doors.
However, not every door is suitable.
Before installation, it's important to check the door thickness, existing lock preparation, backset and door alignment.
Another important point: Yale specifies that this model is not suitable for entry points where the exterior lock escutcheon is exposed directly to outdoor elements. So it's important to consider the location of your front door before choosing this model.
Digital Lock Man's Verdict
I really like the Yale YRD256 Assure Lock SL because it combines a modern touchscreen design with convenient keyless entry.
If you want to get rid of traditional house keys and enjoy the convenience of entering your home with a PIN code, this is definitely a model worth considering.
It's particularly appealing for homeowners who like a sleek, minimalist appearance without a bulky traditional keypad.
